My Fancy Horse

Someone told Francis that he was fancy, and he decided that fancy horses are supposed to be expensive. I was really aiming for that Cinderella-story-we’re-doing-Grand-Prix-on-a-$10-per-month-budget, but alas. It is not meant to be.

First of all, despite going almost 2 years with perfect saddle fit and getting a thumbs up on fit just a few months ago, we have abruptly reached the point of not fitting properly anymore (on the one hand I’m glad he’s so muscle-y, but on the other hand COME ON). Our saddle fitter came out to discuss options and none of them are free. So that’s cool.

Then, homeboy is getting heightened vet care. As mentioned, he’ll be getting a full workup soon to figure out what he needs to be comfortable performing at the higher levels. My guess is going to be at the very least another SI injection, with potentially some other injections as well. Farewell money.

I’ve also mentioned massage/chiro. I’ve told Trainer to stick Francis on the list for the next time our person comes out. Fiance gleefully refers to the prospect of massage, chiro, and acupuncture as “Rubs, Cracks, and Pokes.” Plenty of rubs, cracks, and pokes are in Frankie’s future. He thinks I’m going to be the most ridiculous panhandler on the side of the road, with my sign saying, “My horse needs a massage, anything helps, God bless.” I mean, I’m considering it.

CONTINUING ON THE SPEND TRAIN, I switched back into the snaffle when we got back from WEC and oh dear Lord do I hate it. Absolutely loathe. Grabbing a bit identical to AT’s is high on the priority list, he went in that so beautifully.

Along those lines, a figure-8 bridle. That’s what he went in all WEC and I loved it. Hoping I can just get the noseband and not need a whole new bridle? Though at this point it’s kinda like WHATEVER I’LL JUST KEEP THROWING MONEY AT MY TACK.

Really loved the bit/bridle combo here.

If you need me, I’ll just be frantically rearranging my budget spreadsheet to accommodate my Very Fancy Horse.

I had to laugh at this. When the vet came to do May’s workup, I literally told her “look, my horse isn’t a racehorse. She’s a glorified trail horse that knows when to pick her feet up, but she saved my butt a lot and I want her to keep doing that.” And that’s the truth. Could she survive being a field boarded horse on self care board, be barefoot, and only see the vet twice a year for vaccines and her coggins? Probably. But I have learned that when you find a horse you really enjoy, you do whatever you can to maintain them as long as possible. She may not be fancy, but she’s the best horse in the world when she saves my butt!

Frankie deserves ALL THE THINGS. Gem has been so low maintenance her whole time with me, but she is going to be 20 so I ‘m setting up an appointment with the vet (if I can find one, our area just had a mass exodus of equine vets this past month…scary) to talk about her senior care needs. Bye money!

I feel ya. Duke is starting monthly massages now. You know how many massages I’ve had in my life? ZERO. But it’s worth it to keep him happy. I mean, the guy had back surgery just over a year ago, so yeah, I’m on board with some extra maintenance!

Frankie definitely deserves all the things! You should TOTALLY throw money at tack and grab the Lund figure 8! I LOVE their bridles! Haha that’s what I’m doing right now lol I’ve actually considered making a spreadsheet for myself because it’d just be better that way…..lol And I hate spreadsheets haha! Frankie tho is so worth it for that! I’m thankful that I know massage so I can give Amber any massages that she needs, but I definitely want to get her some chiro as well!

Bah ahaha! We all know buying the actual horse is the cheapest part — it’s all the care afterwards that costs a fortune!

LOL Fancy ponys need all the fancy things. If you end up panhandling – def take Frankie with you for bonus.

Welcome to Fancy Horse ownership! You shouldn’t have trouble finding just a figure 8 to match your current bridle. And definitely check ebay for bits! You can find most of them pretty inexpensively there.

I know I know I am super behind on reading my blogs and I am just getting to this one. Lol. What I find funny about this one is that I am in the middle of formulating my own blog on money whoas. Can I please go back to my parents paying for my housing, utilities, food, and insurance? They don’t need to pay for my ponies. I can handle that if they pay for everything else!
