Meeeeee

I’ll have more fun updates on how training is going later this week, but until then enjoy some filler fun facts about yours truly:

  • I don’t get stage fright. I grew up doing ballet and absolutely LIVED for recitals and performances. I seriously love being the center of attention. It’s not even that I’m some uber extrovert (I’m really not), I just love having all eyes on me. It’s why public speaking is my jam. Maybe it’s from being the youngest child and only girl? Who knows. I try to not be obnoxious about it.
  • I have a theory that greater comfort with public speaking directly translates to greater presence of mind in the show ring. I need to put together a post on this.
  • I have a weird thing with lizards. I love them. I don’t know why, I just absolutely lose my mind when I see one. To an absurd extent- I saw some guy dressed up as the Geico gecko at a baseball game and literally started crying. It was out of control.

I have shed countless tears over this picture
  • If I suddenly received a gazillion dollars, I don’t think my life would materially change. I like working, I love my roommate, I love where I keep Francis. I’d probs buy a lot of tack and then go to more horse shows, but that’s about it. Things are pretty good as they are and I wouldn’t make a whole lot of changes even if I had the money.
  • I credit a lot of the arc of my life thus far to my high school chem/physics teacher. He’s the one that nurtured my love for science and encouraged me to apply to some competitive engineering programs for college. Science and math had always been my jam, but he was hugely influential at an age where that support and encouragement opened my eyes to so many more possibilities.
  • I have a fear of edges. Not heights. I can be super high up and as long as I’m secure, no problemo! But stick me near the edge and I freeze and get tunnel vision and freak out.
  • I jumped on the bandwagon and did the three fictional character thing that’s floating around Facebook:

threecharacters

Honestly I could probably limit this to just Elliot. Pasty New England perfectionist with a penchant for making any situation awkward (“Elliot Reid, Moment Killer”). But then Hermione is my jam- loves to learn and gets shit done. And Jess from New Girl kinda has the humor- super goofy and positive.

Prepping this week for our last show of the season this weekend, can’t wait to let you know how it goes!

I was a cheerleader in high school (yes, for reals) and I think that has done incredible things for my confidence in front of large groups. I also don’t get nervous when I show. I can totally see how confidence from cheerleading (and public speaking) would carry over into the show ring.

Cheering, dancing, anything where you get up in front of an audience is so good for you!

Haha love this!! I’m definitely a Jess. Also, that’s awesome you’re into public speaking! I am not a fan of being the center of attention, except on social media haha.

Aww that is an adorable lizard! I would love to hear your thoughts on public speaking as applied to the show ring…. I am horrible public speaker and have horrible show nerves…so that kind of makes sense.

I’ve been in a Toastmasters course at work for a couple months now, and everyone is making SO MUCH progress with their speaking skills- there’s nothing like practice to get more comfortable with it 🙂

We’re super similar in the attention thing – only instead of dance, I’m pretty sure mine comes from being the first girl grandchild and basically growing up with ALL THE ATTENTIONS. Like, I live(d) (ugh, forever in school never showing again) to show because the feeling of coming in the arena and just killing it, like best feeling ever.

I totally agree on the public speaking note. I was in a public speaking club all through high school. My freshman year I dreaded it, and was quite horrible at speaking, but by the end I was really glad I did it, and now public speaking is a skill I still have – I think it’s all about “owning it” whether you’re speaking, or riding. I had a trainer once, even in warm up, tell me that I was at the show to own my skills and show off even just warming up, and I’ve sat up a little taller ever since then! And I love Elliott, I can see the similarities 🙂 Good luck at Culpeper!!!

That is SO COOL that you did public speaking in school- what a skillset that’s useful for LITERALLY EVERYONE. I couldn’t agree more with your trainer, you’re there to strut your stuff and own it!

I never knew you had a weird lizard fascination! That’s hilarious! I did a lot of singing during school and I could get up and sing a solo in front of a bazillion people, but public speaking kind of weirded me out!? I also get show nerves like whoa. So. Yeah. I dunno what that’s about. And I LOVE your three characters, they are so perfect!

The lizard thing started in college and now I’m pretty sure I’ll never be content until I have one to call my own hahaha
So jealous that you can sing, that’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to be able to do, and I just sound like a frog 😛
