First Time XC Schooling

So as mentioned, my barn went XC schooling this past weekend. It was Addy’s first time on a XC course, and my first time doing anything remotely resembling XC since I was roughly 11.

Oh my gosh. I totally get it. I completely understand why you crazy eventers do it. I can see why now.

And Addy totally gets it too. My pony that HATES airy verticals (literally just a colorful pole) hunted down every jump and acted like she had done this a thousand times.

I don’t even know what else to say. This was so incredibly awesomely fun, my horse was definitely having an awesome time, and I’m still grinning about all of it. Water, ditches, banks, logs, all of it was amazing. I still stink at down banks (stupid jumping position muscle memory getting me into trouble), but it was SO. MUCH. FUN.

I’ll just let you see the video of all the fun elements we got to try, and you can see Addy’s first XC school for yourself. It goes in order from our warmup to the last element we tried. (HUGE thank you to manfriend, who spent several hours trekking after us over hill and dale to take these videos PLUS some awesome pictures. All this despite his allergy to horses. I know. He’s the absolute best.)

When can we go again?!

Seriously, it looks like you both had a blast! What a nice facility, too!

It was great, everything was really nicely laid out with lots of options for different levels! And it was only 30 minutes down the road, lucky us!

Wow!!! You guys looks awesome! I’m so jealous of your brave pants! I have no brave pants. I jump only things that fall down in the safety of a fenced in area.
But you both look like you were having a blast! Your mare was like, “what’s next?! BRING IT ON!!!!”

I’ll admit I was super duper nervous until I jumped the first log. And then Addy took over from there and we loved it!!

    • hellomylivia 10/26/2015 / 10:32 am

Thank you!! ❤ I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time.

That looks like a lot of fun! I would love to try XC with Sydney, but I am so afraid that we will go charging around at mach 10 with zero control. That or I will fall off and she will go flying off into oblivion (even though the one time I did come off on a trail ride she stopped immediately and waited for me).

Honestly I was expecting the same thing- Addy isn’t known for being a slow horse despite her size haha. If you go with a bunch of friends then your horse will probably stay with the group even if you take a tumble! (we had a couple spills yesterday, but happy endings!)

I’ve already totally freaked out over all the pics/video on FB.. but omg you and Addy are MADE FOR XC! You definitely need to give eventing a try! So, so impressed at how well you did your first time out!

It was really unbelievable how quickly she took to it, we’re definitely going to have to play outside more often 🙂

You guys look AWESOME! I would love to do that, however, I feel like my jumpers might shrivel up and die cross country, especially my gelding, he is a princess.

    • hellomylivia 10/28/2015 / 7:13 am

Geldings are always such princesses, it’s the mares that can handle the mud 😉

  13. Liz 10/28/2015 / 9:17 am

Oh my goodness gracious this looks like so much fun and you two look FABULOUS.

    • hellomylivia 10/28/2015 / 9:20 am

Thank you!!! Several days later and I’m STILL obsessively re-watching the video and re-living the fun 🙂
