Weekend Call to Action

Hi there readers!

Instead of writing a post on something interesting, this post is going to be asking you all to share.

Here’s the deal: as you may have seen on Wednesday, I’m now on Twitter! You can find me there at my usual handle- @hellomylivia.

What I need from you: Advice. Despite the fact that my generation invented the darn thing, I really don’t understand Twitter that much. All I know is that it’s supposedly a great tool to connect with people, bloggers love it, and I now have an avenue for the occasional snarkfest.

So please share in the comments:

  1. What’s your favorite way to use Twitter?
  2. How did you learn about Twitter? Any articles, blog posts, word of mouth, anything! I need an education.
  3. What’s your handle? I’d like to follow you guys!

I’m out of town this weekend (At a lake house with manfriend, his hockey team, and assorted hangers-on; should be as ridiculous as it sounds), so I won’t be checking the comments until Monday. Please share your wisdom with me!

Maybe I’ll learn how to be an expert and share some Twitter mastery in a little while 😉

    I’m @susanwordlover. 🙂
    1. I use Twitter to know what’s going on in the horse world and the actual world. I follow everything/everyone from California Chrome to NPR to authors I like and teachers I want to be like. I love the account History in Pictures.
A couple months ago I had an old picture of a church from a vacation in Ireland that I was trying to find more info about. I tweeted it and said it was in County Sligo and within 24 hours I had several people on Twitter from Ireland give me the exact name and even newer pictures of it. That would have never happened on Facebook.
My other favorite way is to participate in Twitter chats. I’ve been able to interact with “big name” people that way from Darley Newman of Equitrekking to Lynn Symansky the eventer. I’ve Tweeted them questions and they’ve responded back.
    2. I learned about Twitter from dabbling. I initially got on for my career as a teacher. I listened to a speaker and he said just try it and see what happens. I follow Pam the Marketing Nut and Michael Hyatt and Chelsea Krost. They’re all Twitter mavens. I see what/how they Tweet and modify it to my purposes. Here’s a good overview from Pam Moore. http://www.pammarketingnut.com/2014/04/how-to-start-twitter-conversation/
I like to Retweet horse rescues for example. I see some people who use Twitter as like a second Facebook or Instagram. It’s really not meant to do what those do.
Twitter is actually my favorite social medium. Here’s another good post. http://michaelhyatt.com/the-beginners-guide-to-twitter.html
